I never make New Year’s Resolutions. That way, I can’t be disappointed in myself when I break them. What a way to live, eh? This year, I shall try a different way. I’m not promising to be more fit, more wealthy, more enlightened… (although all of those things would be nice, too.) But instead, I choose to be more creative. So here goes.
Inspired by Jake Watling’s mural at the corner of 43rd & Telegraph in Oakland, CA, I have decided to embrace his motto: “Oh yeah – if you can… Try to do something creative everyday.”
I dance. That has always been my creative outlet. I have also been known to create Valentine’s Day cards blindfolded in competition (I won, with my pop-up heart creation), and wrapping paper made out of recycled Trader Joe’s bags that included handles for easy transport. My apartment reflects my eclectic and creative sensibilities. (At least, I like to think so.) I am also a control-freak-perfectionist and don’t usually allow myself space to fully explore my creative sensibilities or artistic endeavors. I want to change that.
I have no vision for this blog, except to post one thing every day. I am hoping to give myself permission to expand what CREATIVITY means – in my world, and in the larger world that surrounds me.
Here’s to living: creative & heartfelt.
